East Hill Cemetery

East Hill Cemetery is one of the oldest burial sites in Dartford, with burial records dating as far back as 1856. The cemetery features many interesting finds, including the Martyrs Memorial. The Martyrs Memorial was erected in 1851 to commemorate Christopher Ward, who was burnt at the stake in Dartford during the reign of Queen Mary. Richard Trevithick, the pioneer of steam locomotion, was also buried in East Hill Cemetery when he died in 1833. However, it is unfortunately no longer possible to purchase a new grave here.
